Our Story: A Legacy of Love
In 1897, a young Mykonian named Theodoros fell in love with Katerina. At the time, Mykonos was a quiet island of farmers and shepherds. Katerina’s family was considered wealthy for owning livestock, while Theodoros was very poor—literally barefoot.
Because of this, her family refused to accept him. Determined to prove his worth, Theodoros left for the United States, where he spent eight years working in coal mines and saving every penny. All the while, Katerina waited for him.
When he finally returned, he purchased 300 acres of land on the summit of Kounoupas Mountain. Her family, struck by his devotion and success, finally welcomed him as her groom. Today, Mykonos High stands on that very same land. We built this villa in his memory, honoring the journey he took to make this dream possible.
THE MYTH OF THE GIANTS
The land that Theodoros chose was not just a vantage point for the future, but a place deeply rooted in the echoes of the past.
The legend of Mykonos reaches back to the dawn of time. This island was the site of the final battle between the Gods and the Giants. It was here that Hercules, the son of Zeus, lured the Giants away from Mount Olympus to defeat them.
Local lore says that the massive, jagged rocks scattered across the Kounoupas landscape are the petrified bodies of those fallen Giants. If you look closely at the stones surrounding the estate, you can still see their faces etched in the rock.
THE ALTAR: SACRED GEOGRAPHY
The High Ground & The Empty Throne
Across ancient traditions, the highest places are always the most sacred. In ancient Greece, Mount Olympus was the seat of Zeus—elevated far above the noise of the everyday world below. Being at the highest point meant stepping closer to the gods, gaining a place of absolute peace and clear vision.
This respect for elevation is shared across the world. In traditional Balinese belief, the sea and the coast are the lower realm, home to chaotic energy. To find purity, one must go up to the Padmasana—an empty lotus throne reserved for supreme cosmic energy to make a short visit from above.
Mykonos High translates this ancient truth to the Cyclades. As the highest residential sanctuary on the Kounoupas ridge, our private luxury estate is positioned on a direct energetic line with the Sacred Island of Delos. Anchored by a traditional, non-operating Mykonos church directly on the property, the site holds undeniable spiritual and historical weight.
Delos is the sacred island and mythological birthplace of the divine twins: Apollo, God of Light and Music, and Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt. The ancient energy of this place infuses the entire high villa. At the summit sit our own thrones. Waiting for those ready to align with the calm energy of the ridge, they offer the 'Gods’ View.' It is from here that the everyday magical sunsets unfold—a daily performance of light and shadow, experienced completely undisturbed.
